March 2 Quito with Marcia

On March 2 we were around Quito, me and Marcia that arrived yesterday.
A nice clean city, with 2 special churchs.


The first the Basilica, which is a copy of the NotreDame is very nice. Imponent , and inside they President at the time, build space for each State to have their chappel.


Some did, and some did not, staying unfinished.


The Gold Catedral is the other one. Unfortunatelly we couldnt take pictures of that because of its richness.

Equador - A Nice Surprise

Day before yesterday we mooved from Piuna to Loja in Equador . As a miracle, the desert is gone and the green is back. Today me and Chris rode 700km ! A Tought journey because we had to pic up our spouses.
Trudy is arriving tonight and Marcia tomorrow.
On todays journey , we saw a beautifull Country, with lots of small properites, much more cleaner and organized than Peru, and like a miracle , nobody honks their horns.

In Peru that is very bad. For any reason, people is beeping...... so it became a huge polution.

The road from Loja to Cuenca is very nice, with good curves, and a very good asphalt. From Cuenca to Quito the situation gets complicated. The road is not bad, but the traffic increase ten-fold.

Getting in Quito is an adventure, its difficult and confusing. And everybody runs a lot and passes you by the right, the left, above , under.....

So after 13h 30min we arrrived at the Marriott Hotel in Quito.

From Chiclayo to Piura

Piura e a ultima cidade que ficamos no Peru. Todo o  oeste do país é todo desértico, até encontrar o Pacifico. As paisagens sao areia e mais areia. Deserto, ou praia, ou a mistura dos dois.....

Muito legal, foi ver uma Lamborghini Zero estacionada na Praia! E o Piloto estava uniformizado.

23 e 24 fevereiro de Nasca a Parracas a Barrancas

Saímos ontem de Nasca rumo a Parracas. Na estrada havia uma torre onde podiamos ver algumas das figuras do alto e ter uma boa ideia do deserto que é a regiao.

Havia dito a vocês sobre um casal que andava de moto , ele de side car pois é deficiente e a namorada de moto. Pois encontramos eles novamente quando estavamos abastecendo e tirei melhores fotos.  É um exemplo de superação! Todo ano eles andam 1 mes de moto na America do Sul e deixam depois a moto na casa de um amigo o Uruguai.

De Parracas a Barrancas sao 450km, com um agravante, passamos por Lima.

A passagem por Lima é caótica, e faz com que a Marginal do Tiete as 18:00 hrs antes de um feriado parece coisa de criança. Caos total, com caminhòes, vans, tuctucs etc. Todos indo para todos os lados e entrando em quaisquer espaços que existam.

A cidade de Barracas tem mais TucTucs do que na India... de todos os tipos e cores e; todos buzinam ao mesmo tempo.....

Nasca LInes in Peru 21 Fevereiro 2011

Today we went to see the Nasca Lines, on a Cessna Caravan and flew for 50 min.
Nice flight and we were able to see a couple designs of  the Nasca Lines.

Wikipedia helped us to get a bit of History of the site:

The Nazca Lines are a series of ancient geoglyphs located in the Nazca Desert in southern Peru. They were designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1994. The high, arid plateau stretches more than 80 kilometres (50 mi) between the towns of Nazca and Palpa on the Pampas de Jumana about 400 km south of Lima. Although some local geoglyphs resemble Paracas motifs, scholars believe the Nazca Lines were created by the Nazca culture between 400 and 650 CE.^[1] The hundreds of individual figures range in complexity from simple lines to stylized hummingbirds, spiders, monkeys, fish, sharks, orcas, llamas, and lizards.
The lines are shallow designs made in the ground by removing the ubiquitous reddish pebbles and uncovering the whitish ground beneath. Hundreds are simple lines or geometric shapes; more than seventy are designs of animal, bird, fish or human figures. The largest figures are over 200 metres (660 ft) across. Scholars differ in interpreting the purpose of the designs, but they generally ascribe religious significance to them.

This SideCar Ktm 990 was very interesting. And the pilot was even more. A Paraplegic German, that takes 3 months out of each year, with his beautiful girl friend in a bmw 650, to travel around south america!
